“<스트리트 드로잉(Street Drawing)> 시리즈는 뉴욕 브루클린 작업실 앞 도로를 기록한 사진 작업이다. 얇게 내려앉 은 눈 위로 새겨진 자전거와 자동차의 궤적은 나에게 거리 위 일상의 움직임이 남긴 하나의 ‘드로잉’으로 다가왔다. 아스팔트의 거친 표면과 눈의 부드러운 질감, 그리고 주민들의 이동이 남긴 바퀴 자국은 층층이 겹치면서 우연적이 고 추상적인 이미지를 형성한다. 서서히 녹아내리는 눈의 흔적은 의도되지 않은 찰나의 드로잉을 가감 없이 드러낸 다. 나는 이 장면이 도시의 일상과 시간의 흐름이 교차하며 만들어낸 ‘공동의 드로잉’이라고 생각한다. 작업은 선명한 재현보다는 표면의 질감과 흔적을 포착하는 데 집중했다. 프린트된 이미지는 디아섹(Diasec) 공법을 통해 투명한 층을 입게 되며, 이는 화면 안에 깊이감과 환영적 공간(illusional space)을 부여한다. 이러한 방식은 나 의 향(香) 조각 작업과 마일러(Mylar)지를 사용한 드로잉에서 나타나는 투명하면서 조작되는 공간감과도 궤를 같이한다."

“The Street Drawing series is a photographic study of the road in front of my studio in Brooklyn, New York. The traces left by bicycles and cars on a thin layer of freshly fallen snow appeared to me as a form of "drawing" created by the everyday movements of the street. The coarse surface of the asphalt, the soft texture of the snow, and the tire tracks left by neighbors overlap to form accidental and abstract imagery. Within these frames, the marks of melting snow reveal unintended moments of drawing. I perceive these scenes as a "collective drawing" co-authored by the city’s daily life and the passage of time. Rather than aiming for vivid representation, the photographs focus on emphasizing surface textures and traces. Through the Diasec process, the printed images form a transparent layer that creates depth and an illusory space within the frame. This approach connects to the sense of a transparent, illusional space found in both my incense sculpture works and my drawings utilizing Mylar.”  - Sungmi Lee
